Jack Denton is just another travel-stained wanderer when he fetches up in the town of Jordan's Crossing. There he finds a young widow, Marion Fowler, being terrorized by three men in her store, and kicks them out. But then the stakes are raised when her six-year-old son is kidnapped, and she receives a note telling her to leave the key to the store on her step.
